There is something deeply comforting about a space built entirely for your own enjoyment.
For a long time, my gaming setup was just functional. A desk, a monitor, a chair that vaguely supported my back. But then I started treating it like a sanctuary.
More Than Just Aesthetics
People see the RGB lights, the plushies, the perfectly placed mechanical keyboard, and think it is just about making it look cute for photos. It is not.
It is about environmental psychology. When the world is loud and demanding, having a corner that is visually soft, deliberately lit, and completely under your control changes how your nervous system rests.
I wrote before about what being a gamer girl means to me, and part of that is reclaiming gaming as a form of self-care rather than just competition.
The Ritual of Sitting Down
Turning on my PC at the end of the day feels like taking a deep breath. The specific sound of my keyboard switches, the glow of the screen, the weight of the headset, it is a physical transition out of ‘work mode’ and into my own world.
We do not talk enough about the need for rituals that belong only to us.
Building Your Own World
If your space does not feel like a relief to enter, change it. It does not need to be expensive. It just needs to be intentional. Add softer lighting. Put something there that you just like to look at.
Create a place where you actually want to be.
